| Abstract |
Thirty five 12-15 years girls were hospitalized for treatment of adolescent dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB). While thirteen patients received pharmacological treatment only (control group), twenty two girls (experimental group), in addition to traditional treatment, received a course of intermittent hypoxic training (IHT). The IHT course consisted of 12 daily sessions. Each session included three 5 min periods of breathing the gas mixture containing 12% of oxygen, with two 5 min intermissions, when patients were breathing regular air. The beneficial effects of the IHT were observed starting from the fifth session. All the indexeses of hypoxia (oxygen consumption, body oxygen regimen, working capacity) have improved. Significant improvement in clinical outcomes of the treatment (uterine bleeding, hemoglobin blood concentration, urine pregnandiol content, number of keratosic cells in vaginal smears) were observed in comparison with the control group of patients. Possible mechanisms of the beneficial effects of the IHT are discussed.
